I-Scream Case Study: AI Visibility for a B2B Manufacturer
In July 2026, AI engines did not recognise Hong Kong gelato maker I-Scream: asked its brand name, ChatGPT answered an ad-tech company, Gemini a Japanese pop group, Doubao a cartoon bunny. Three months later, it was a cited supplier across six AI engines — quoted with prices, certifications and contact details. Every number below is a dated, screenshot-backed measurement; the gaps that remain are reported as gaps. Screenshot evidence: I-Scream before-and-after portfolio.
The Client
I-Scream Ltd. is a Hong Kong gelato institution hiding in plain sight. Founded in 2003 by Italian gelato master Paolo Predonzan, the company handcrafts gelato locally in HACCP-, ISO 22000- and Halal-certified facilities, has created 600+ flavours — from Coconut Nian Gao to Moutai to Indian Kulfi — and supplies over 400 premium venues including five-star hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants. It also runs direct-to-consumer delivery, custom flavour development for weddings, corporate events and private-label clients, and a dedicated pet-safe gelato range. The problem: almost none of that was visible to AI engines.
The Baseline — July 2026
Captured 15–21 July 2026: 17 screenshots across five AI engines (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI, Doubao), a Google brand SERP, and a Rich Results Test. Three findings define the starting point.
1. On category queries, I-Scream did not exist. Asked "Can you recommend me the top 5 gelatos in Hong Kong" and "I am looking for famous gelatos in Hong Kong", every engine answered with retail scoop shops — Messina, XTC, Ganto, Venchi, L'antico, Snack Baby. I-Scream appeared in 0 of the 10 category-query answers across all five engines. As a manufacturer-wholesaler, it was not even in the consideration set when buyers described what they actually needed.
2. On its own name, engines guessed — and mostly guessed wrong. The query "What is I-Scream in Hong Kong" produced:
| Engine | What "I-Scream" resolved to (Jul 2026) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Led with an unrelated ad-tech company; I-Scream HK appeared only as a buried disambiguation item | ❌ Wrong entity first |
| Gemini | Led with the Japanese girl group "iScream" (LDH); the HK gelato brand appeared third | ❌ Wrong entity first |
| Doubao | Led with "iScream", an animated bunny character from the Chikn Nuggit web series; the HK gelato maker was absent | ❌ Absent |
| Copilot | Correct — led with "IScream (Hong Kong) — Authentic Italian Gelato" | ✅ Correct |
| Google AI | Correct and detailed (2003 founding, hotel and restaurant supply) | ✅ Correct |
3. The technical foundation was broken. Google's Rich Results Test could not evaluate the zh-TW site URL — the page was not indexable (crawl failure recorded 15 July 2026) — and the brand's own Google snippet displayed a WordPress error, "Slider with alias home3 not found", as the site description. The July Share-of-Mention report (23 July 2026) scored I-Scream at 20%: mentioned in 3 of 15 tracked query runs — "AI occasionally mentions you."
Baseline Summary
| Metric | Baseline (Jul 2026) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Category-query citations | 0 of 10 (5 engines × "top 5 gelatos" / "famous gelatos") | Screenshots 15–21 Jul 2026 |
| Brand-name entity errors | 3 of 5 engines led with a different "iScream" | ChatGPT (ad-tech), Gemini (J-pop group), Doubao (cartoon character) |
| Share of Mention (tracked set) | 20% — mentioned in 3 of 15 tracked query runs | Visora SoM report, 23 Jul 2026 |
| Google indexing | zh-TW homepage failed the Rich Results Test (not indexable) | Crawl failure recorded 15 Jul 2026 |
| Google brand snippet | Displayed a WordPress error: "Slider with alias home3 not found" | SERP capture 15 Jul 2026 |
The Diagnosis
I-Scream's expertise lived in pages that machines could not parse or trust: image-only menus, prose without extractable facts, and no structured entity signal binding "I-Scream" (Hong Kong, gelato, since 2003, Paolo Predonzan) apart from a Japanese pop group, a cartoon bunny and an ad-tech firm. And no page spoke to the intents its real buyers actually type: customisation, corporate events, wholesale supply, pet-friendly ordering.
What Visora Did
- Made the facts machine-citable: the rebuilt site now states, in extractable form, exactly what an engine needs to recommend a supplier — 600+ flavours created, custom flavour development for weddings / corporate events / private-label, HACCP + ISO 22000 + Halal certifications, 400+ venues supplied, tub formats (730 ml / 2.2 L / 5.3 L), bulk pricing from 50+ cups, flat HK$150 delivery (free above HK$1,000), and a dedicated pet-safe, lactose-free range. The title tag became a positioning statement: "Authentic Italian Gelato Handmade in Hong Kong."
- Bespoke keyword design: Elea tailor-made I-Scream's representative keywords — "gelato wholesalers", "pet-friendly gelato", "customizing gelato flavours", "gelato producers offering unique flavours", "corporate events gelato" — categories where a manufacturer-wholesaler is genuinely the strongest answer, not the retail "top 5 gelato shops" fight it could never win.
- Website content updated keyword by keyword: pages were rewritten or added to answer each designed intent with extractable facts, prices and service terms. This is why the October re-test introduced new search queries — they are I-Scream's bespoke keyword set, asked for the first time against content built specifically to win them.
- Entity grounding and Google Business Profile work, consistent with the July SoM report's prescribed next actions (GBP menu / flavours / photos + dessert schema).
- Re-measured on 15–16 October 2026 across six AI engines plus classic Google Search, using the intent queries above — same engines, real queries, dated screenshots.
The Results — October 2026
19 of the 34 re-test screenshots show I-Scream cited in the AI answer — with commercial detail, not just a name. July baseline: 0 of 10 category citations.
Google AI — the Standout
- Customisation query — ranked #1 (answer delivered in Chinese, as is common for Hong Kong users): "I-Scream — the invisible R&D kitchen of Hong Kong's top hotels and chefs… develops custom gelato for five-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and private clubs."
- Corporate events: I-Scream's overview leads the visible provider list — founded 2003, supplies 5-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and corporate events; 600+ flavours; −20 °C refrigerated trucks.
- Wholesalers: #2 behind XTC Gelato, with the full credential set quoted.
- Pet-friendly (re-captured 16 Oct, ranked #1): the answer's online-ordering section leads with I-Scream's dedicated pet-safe range — lactose-free, with delivery terms — before third-party pet-gelato retailers.
- Brand name "IScream": Google's AI Overview now lists I-Scream HK as disambiguation item #1 (2003 founding, Paolo Predonzan, 400+ premium venues, certifications) — the Japanese pop group is relegated to a plain Baidu Baike link below.
Google Search — Classic Results Fixed
- #1 organic for "I am looking for customizing gelato flavours in Hong Kong", #2 for "Any gelato producers offering unique flavours in Hong Kong", #3 for "pet friendly gelato ordering in Hong Kong" — top results on every buyer-intent query tested.
- The broken "Slider not found" snippet is gone, replaced by: "Artisan Italian gelato handmade in Hong Kong since 2003. 600+ flavors, pet-friendly options, HACCP & ISO 22000 certified. Cups, tubs, wholesale & event…"
ChatGPT — From Wrong Company to Shortlisted Supplier
- Corporate events (#3): "A good alternative if you want handmade gelato, unusual flavours, or a combination of event catering and bulk orders… HACCP, ISO 22000, and Halal certified. Contact: info@iscream.com.hk or +852 2344 1778."
- Pet-friendly (#2, behind Messina's Pup Cups): "A Hong Kong gelato maker with a dedicated pet-friendly gelato range… 730 ml tubs start at HK$250… free delivery on orders above HK$1,000."
- Unique flavours (#5): "One of the most promising choices if you mean actual gelato manufacturers rather than just scoop shops… more than 600 gelato and sorbet flavours, including coconut nian gao, Moutai and Indian kulfi."
Perplexity — First-Time Citations, in Comparison Tables
- Wholesale (#2): "The strongest options for wholesale are XTC Gelato, I-Scream, and Gelato Lab" — with a table row quoting tub formats, certifications and bulk discounts from 5 L.
- Unique flavours (#2): table row — "Coconut nian gao, Moutai, panettone, Indian kulfi, whiskey, sake, champagne, Thai milk tea; offers custom flavours and supplies restaurants/hotels."
- Corporate events (#3): "If food-safety credentials and premium artisan gelato matter most, I-Scream is an excellent alternative." Customisation: provider comparison table with I-Scream's phone and email.
- The one miss: pet-friendly — the answer leaned on map listings (Gelato Combo, Weeds, Ganto) with no I-Scream. Cited on 4 of 5 Perplexity queries.
Gemini & Copilot — Cited on the Highest-Value Intents
- Gemini, corporate events (#2): full profile — Italian gelato master founder, 400+ destinations including Michelin-starred restaurants, HACCP/ISO 22000/Halal, cold-plate refrigerated trucks for Hong Kong summers.
- Gemini and Copilot, wholesale: listed immediately after XTC Gelato, with private-label manufacturing and custom flavours quoted (Copilot: "founded by Italian gelato master Paolo Predonzan… supplying more than 400 premium venues").

What the Engines Now Say — Verbatim
Excerpts transcribed from the October 2026 screenshots; every query below is published exactly as typed, so you can re-run it yourself.
| Engine | Query | What the answer says |

| Google AI Overview | Brand: "IScream" | First disambiguation item is I-Scream HK — 2003 founding by Paolo Predonzan, 400+ premium venues, HACCP/ISO 22000/Halal |
| ChatGPT | Pet-friendly gelato ordering | "A Hong Kong gelato maker with a dedicated pet-friendly gelato range… 730 ml tubs start at HK$250… free delivery on orders above HK$1,000" (ranked #2, behind Messina) |

Honest Limitations
- Doubao remains unsolved: its (Chinese) answers still centre on XTC Gelato; I-Scream is not yet cited in the captured shots. That is the next sprint, not a footnote.
- XTC Gelato is the entrenched incumbent on wholesale and corporate intents across most engines — I-Scream typically enters at #2. Winning wholesale outright is the open frontier.
- AI answers are non-deterministic: individual sessions fluctuate (several 15 October answers re-captured on 16 October differed). That volatility is exactly why visibility needs continuous measurement, not one-off audits.
- The before/after query sets differ by design: the baseline measured generic discovery queries; the re-test used the keyword categories Elea designed for I-Scream (wholesale, customisation, pet-friendly, unique flavours, corporate events) after updating the site's content for each — the new queries are part of the deliverable, not a moved goalpost. Both waves are real queries, typed verbatim; the brand-name intent is directly comparable across waves.
Why This Works
Every fact the engines now cite — 600+ flavours, the certifications, 400+ venues, HK$150 flat delivery, the pet-safe range — exists on the I-Scream site in a form machines can extract and verify. The engines did not change; the evidence available to them did. That is the entire discipline of AI visibility: be the source the answer is forced to quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is AI visibility measured in this case study?
A fixed set of real customer questions, asked to a fixed panel of AI engines, captured as dated screenshots — before (15–21 July 2026: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI, Doubao) and after (15–16 October 2026: the same panel plus Perplexity, plus classic Google Search). Every query in this case study is published exactly as typed, so anyone can re-run it.
How long did it take for AI engines to reflect the changes?
The work ran from the July baseline to the October re-test — roughly three months. Retrieval-grounded engines (Google AI, Perplexity, Copilot) reflected the new site content within weeks of it being crawled; the October capture is the consolidated re-measurement, not the first appearance.
Why does Doubao still not cite I-Scream?
Doubao's Chinese answers on gelato supply questions are dominated by XTC Gelato, whose Chinese-language footprint is stronger. This is an honest open gap, tracked for the next optimisation sprint — reporting it is what keeps the rest of the results trustworthy.
I-Scream is a B2B manufacturer — why did retail queries matter?
They mattered as a diagnostic: appearing in 0 of 10 category answers showed the brand had no extractable footprint at all. The optimisation then targeted the intents I-Scream can genuinely win — customisation, corporate events, wholesale, pet-friendly — which is where its actual buyers are.
