AI Referral Tracker for GA4
AI engines are sending you traffic that GA4 files under "Referral" — or loses entirely. This tool builds the custom channel-group regex that separates visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude and others, so you can finally see what AI visibility is worth.
How to use it
- Toggle the AI sources you want to track — the regex updates live
- Copy the regex into GA4: Admin → Data display → Channel groups → Create new channel group
- Add a channel named "AI Search / LLMs" with condition: source matches regex
- Reorder the channel above Referral and save
The honest caveat
Between 35% and 70% of AI-originated sessions arrive with no referrer at all and land in Direct — measured AI traffic is a floor, not the ceiling. ChatGPT appends utm_source only on some outbound links. For the full picture, pair GA4 with server-log bot tracking: Visora's Crawler Tracker shows which AI bots and agents actually fetch your pages, including verified agents (RFC 9421 Signature-Agent) that no analytics tag can see.
